What is Bible Jeopardy and Why Should You Play?

Bible Jeopardy is a fun activity that can be used to test your knowledge of the bible across a diverse range of categories from the Old Testament and the New Testament. The structure of the activity is nearly identical to the structure of the super popular game show, Jeopardy, where contestants compete against each other by answering trivia questions. On the game show, the question categories are more diverse and can range from sports to classic literature to pop culture to everything inbetween.

Conversely, the Bible Jeopardy questions above are limited to only the two books of the bible and revolve around the stories, prophecies, and people in the Old and New Testaments of the bible.

However, Bible Jeopardy is pretty much the same as the television trivia game show, and, for both versions, players are tasked with trying to earn points for correctly answering questions that vary in difficulty. The total number of points earned for giving a correct answer is dependent on the question’s difficulty. The higher a question’s potential point value, the harder it is. Each Bible Jeopardy Questions category includes five questions that have the following potential point values:

  • 100 points (simple)

  • 200 points (easy)

  • 300 points (moderate)

  • 400 points (challenging)

  • 500 points (difficult)

At the conclusion of the game (when there are no more Bible Jeopardy Questions left to answer), the player or team that has earned the most points will be declared the winner.

Bible Jeopardy: How to Play (and How to Score the Most Points!)

  1. You can start playing Bible Jeopardy as soon as possible simply by using the game board above. Our free Bible Jeopardy game already includes six bible-related categories and corresponding questions that range in difficulty from simple to difficult.

  2. There are many different ways to play Bible Jeopardy. The game is most commonly played by having individuals/groups/teams competing against each other. These groups/teams will depend on the number of people playing. For example, a small group of 4 people may want to all compete against each other individually, while a group of 20 people would be better off splitting into four groups of five people each.

  3. Use a Timer. Just like Jeopardy on television, contestants should only be allowed a fixed amount of time to give an answer to a Bible Jeopardy question. In the TV game show, contestants have just 5 seconds to answer a question before they are cut off by a buzzer, indicating that their time is up and that they have not earned any points. For our Bible Jeopardy game, we recommend allowing players more than 5 seconds to give an answer since player’s should be encouraged to carefully ready each question, chat with their teammates if playing on a team, and think about the answer (which, of course, takes more than 5 seconds!). Therefore, we suggest a minimum of 25 seconds before sounding a buzzer and allowing the next player/team the chance to answer and “steal” the points. Note that allowing 25 seconds is only a suggestion and the total amount of time for answering questions is at the discretion of whoever is hosting the game. To assist with enforcing a time limit, you are invited to use the free timer that is directly underneath the game board, which plays “thinking music” for 20 seconds and then makes a buzzer sound.

  4. When it is a team or player’s turn to play, they must choose a category and point value. Players should play more aggressively when working with categories that they are confident in their knowledge of and more conservatively on categories that they do not consider their strengths. Once a selection has been made, the game host must click on the corresponding box to reveal the question. The host will then read the question aloud and, if the team/player correctly answers the question within the allotted time limit, that team/player will earn the corresponding number of points. This point total is then added to their score and the question box will become blank, meaning that the box is not available for the remainder of the game. However, if an incorrect answer is given or if time runs out, the host may either deduct that point value from the player’s current score or simply award zero points and allow the next player/team to answer the question and earn the points instead.

  5. The Daily Double! Bible Jeopardy includes one bonus Daily Double question that is hidden in the game board and worth twice the normal amount of points if answered correctly! Discovering the location of the Daily Double Bible Jeopardy questions is based on luck, and, when picked, the question will include a Daily Double graphing, signally that, if answered correctly, you can earn double the selected point value. For example, a 300-point question with the Daily Double graphic is actually worth 600 total points!

    1. Keep Score As You Play. The host or someone who isn’t playing should keep score throughout the game. The scores should be visible to all contestants (we suggest using a dry-erase board) so that teams/players can see how they fare and make strategic choices about what questions they should select as the game progresses.

    6. How to Win Bible Jeopardy: The game concludes when there are no questions remaining and every box on the game board is empty. When the game ends, a winner is determined by tallying all of the points and seeing which player/team has earned the most.

Bible Jeopardy: Tips for Doing Your Best

  1. Read the Bible!: The more that you know about the bible, the better you will do at this game. If there are areas of the bible that you do not know much about, we suggest reading through them and studying as often as possible.

  2. Collaboration: Playing Bible Jeopardy on teams with your friends is one of the most fun ways to play. Collaboration provides the opportunity to practice team work, patience, kindness, and understanding.

  3. Have an Open Mind: The purpose of playing Bible Jeopardy is to review your understanding of the bible in a fun setting. Sure, playing involves engaging in an open competition and there is nothing wrong with trying to score as many points as you can, but you should never be disrespectful or rude to other players or the game host for any reason.
