Everything You Need to Know About Christmas Jeopardy
Christmas Jeopardy is a jolly fun trivia game that is a fun way to test your knowledge of all things Christmas across a fun collection of categories ranging from the music to movies to traditions and more.
This festive trivia game closely resembles the beloved format of the wildly popular television game show, Jeopardy. The game gives you the opportunity to be a contestant and engage in the competition by answering Christmas-themed trivia questions that engaging in some heart-warming holiday cheer at the same time!
While the television version of Jeopardy includes a massively diverse collection of trivia categories, spanning from geography to classic literature to pop culture and beyond, our holiday-themed version, Christmas Jeopardy, only focuses on Christmas-themed categories—food, movies, music, traditions, and Santa Claus!
Still, Christmas Jeopardy is essentially exactly the same thing as the television game show. Both versions require contestants to earn points by correctly answering trivia questions that range in difficulty from easy to hard.
In Christmas Jeopardy, points are awarded for a correct response and the total points earned depends on the difficulty of the question. As the potential point value increase, so does the difficulty of the question. And, within each category of Christmas Jeopardy lays a stocking filled with fun facts and Christmas trivia across five categories, each of which contains 5 questions based on the following difficulty tiers:
Level 1: 100 points (simple)
Level 2: 200 points (easy)
Level 3: 300 points (moderate)
Level 4: 400 points (challenging)
Level 5: 500 points (difficult)
When the game ends (when all of the Christmas Jeopardy questions have been answered), the player/team with the most points is the winner!
Christmas Jeopardy: Learn How to Play
Use Our Game Board! You and your friends can begin playing Christmas Jeopardy in less than one minute by taking advantage of the above interactive game board, which is already filled and loaded with trivia questions and answers!
There is no one right way to play Christmas Jeopardy. The trivia game is typically played by having single players or groups/teams play against each other in an effort to see who can score the most points. Players/teams will depend on how many people want to compete against each other. For smaller groups, we recommend having individuals compete against each other, and, for larger groups, go with teams. Note that these are just suggestions and you should choose to play in whichever way you think will lead to having the most fun!
Keep Track of Time! Similar to Jeopardy on television, players should only be given a fixed amount of time to provide their answer to any of the Christmas trivia questions. Contestants on the show only have 5 seconds to answer before the buzzer cuts them off, which means that they have run out of time and have not earned any points. However, since Christmas Jeopardy is meant to be fun and not as serious as the game show version, we recommend being much more lenient and allowing players a more reasonable amount of time. As a suggestion, 25-30 seconds seems to be fair for both individual players and teams to come up with an answer. To keep the game on track and to enforce the time limit, there is a free timer directly below the game board. When you click the play button, a 20-second timer that plays “thinking music” followed by a buzzing sound will begin. You can choose to delay starting the timer for as long as you wish.
Earning Points. During a team/player's turn, they have to select a category as well as a point value. We recommend that players take a more aggressive approach when picking questions from categories they feel very confident about, while, on the other hand, exercising more caution when choosing questions from categories they are less familiar with. Once a question has been chosen, whoever is hosting the game can reveal the question by clicking on the corresponding box. Next, the host should read the question aloud and, if the team/player gives a correct answer within the time limit, they will earn the corresponding number of points. Once a question has been attempted, the box turns blank and that question is no longer available for the remainder of the game. As the game goes on, points are added up to form a player/team’s score. If an incorrect answer is given or time runs out, the host may deduct the point value from the player/team’s total score or simply give them zero points. The host can also give the next player/team a chance to answer the question and steal the points instead.
Look Out for the Daily Double Question! Christmas Jeopardy includes a bonus Daily Double Christmas Trivia Question that is randomly connected to one of the questions on the game word. The Daily Double question is worth double the normal point total. For example, if a player/team chooses a 300 point question that is revealed with the Daily Double icon, it will actually be worth 600 points if answered correctly.
Have a Score Keeper. Be sure to choose someone reliable to serve as a scorekeeper throughout the entire game. Point totals should be visible to all of the players (dry-erase boards are great for keeping score!) so that teams/players can choose categories and questions strategically throughout the game.
Winning Christmas Jeopardy. The trivia game is over when all of the questions have been attempted and the entire game board is blank. At the conclusion of the game, the player/team with the highest point total is crowned the winner!
