A prime number chart is a visual aide that highlights all of the prime numbers from 1-100.

In math, a prime number is any natural number that has only two factors: the number itself and 1. You could also classify a prime number as any positive integer that is greater than 1 that has only two factors. Some examples of prime numbers include 2, 3, 19, and 73.

Students can use a prime numbers chart to learn how to quickly identify and remember the prime numbers, and also to understand the key differences between prime numbers and composite numbers.

What is a Prime Number Chart?

A prime number chart is a simple ten-by-ten grid that displays the numbers 1-100, where all of the prime numbers (positive integers greater than 1 with exactly two factors) are highlighted in contrast to any non-prime (i.e. composite) numbers.

Note that majority of numbers from 1-100 are actually not prime, as you can see on the prime numbers chart shown in Figure 01 below.

In fact, there are only 25 prime numbers from 1-100: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, and 97

By looking at a prime number chart that uses color to contrast the prime numbers from the composite numbers, you can easily see which numbers from 1-100 are prime, how many of them there are, and how they are dispersed, which is an important element of understanding how numbers can be classified based on how many factors they have.

The image in Figure 01 above is the most simple type of prime numbers chart. On the chart, which includes the numbers 1-100, the boxes occupied by the prime numbers are shaded in the color pink, making the prime numbers stand out.
